FCB Playback problems
Posted by Nayim Saati on May 6, 2009 at 1:31 amhey guys, so im on a macbook pro (new ones) but its def not a hardware issue im having… i have the newest version of final cut pro.. the problem is i was working on my project and i hit something on the keyboard byaccident i think and from now on the playback is so jittery… its moves so slow and not smooth as if its playing at 6 frames per second. even scrubbing is messed up like this too… the wierd thing is that when i open older projects everything works fine and when i look at master clips they work fine as well… so it must be some kind of setting in the sequence or something…. any ideas?? thanks for the help

how new is this project? Have you’ve been working on this edit for a while and suddenly the playback is bad? (–if so you might go to your user library and pick up an auto-save project.) Or is this a new project that you can start again? Just curious as to the creation date/to when the problem (accidental keystroke) happened. Also, what are your sequence settings/format? Is your media on the hard drive of your mac, or are you working off a san/drive? Might need a bit more information to try and pinpoint possible solutions.
Thanks.

May 6, 2009 at 12:48 pmive been working on it for about a month..all media is stored on the hard drive, my sequence is in 1080i hd but the playback was fine before this one moment.. all the footage is located on my local drive.. i will try and locate a autosave thats a good idea…

May 6, 2009 at 2:43 pmYou might also check your hard drive space. If it’s gotten to be pretty full, that could be causing some of the playback issues, or if you’ve got a bunch of other programs open at the same time. Might be eating up your processing speed. Auto-save projects default to — mac hard drive/users/YOUR ACCOUNT/documents/FCP documents/Autosave Vault

May 6, 2009 at 2:48 pmDid you try creating a new project that matches your setting? If that gives you back your RT controls, you can try and nest your edited sequence into it and see if you can regain control of playback options.

May 6, 2009 at 2:52 pmplenty of space on the HD, also the autosave projects have the same issues. one thing of note, i lost all of my RT options, all thats left is : play base layer only, and then under record to tape the only 2 options i have are : use playback settingd and full quality.. when i go to other projects i have all of my usuall RT settings like video quality and frame rate… does that give anybody a clue? no other programs are running either and have 180 GB of space.. all other projects work fine…

May 6, 2009 at 2:54 pmIf everything was well with your sequence before, you might have changed the playback frame rate to half or quarter. To check this:
click on the Sequence RT settings tab (top left corner on your open sequence)
go down to playback frame rate and set that to Full.Depending on your preference set the sequence setting to Safe or Unlimited. To get your audio scrubbing back its Shift S.
hope that helps,
Victor

May 6, 2009 at 3:31 pmWeird — although the RT button is inactive on your sequence, you might still get to it in the “User Preferences” setting pane (under the render control tab). Well, glad it’s working anyhow!
