Remote Client Interaction??
Posted by Robert Due on May 1, 2009 at 3:41 pmHello all.
I know there are times when we relish the absence of the client, but….Does anyone know of a way to stream the output of your sequence so that a client could “watch” and “interact” as you edit?
Ideally, I am looking for something hardware based so it can be applied to FCP and Avid as well. We are looking for something that could also have the ability to broadcast comments from the client and from the editor back to them.
Thanks.

May 1, 2009 at 4:01 pm? ? No, you would initiate a video chat, then choose to screen share. The client can see your screen, timeline and everything as if it was on their computer. You can also let them drive FCP remotely if you like. Pretty neat when the Internet is happy.

May 1, 2009 at 4:01 pmichat and mobile me works great if you both have a good cable or t1 connection. In fact, you can actually screen share and control their computer and vice versa. The delay is suprisingly small.
But I’m sure there are more professional solutions out there.
I think you can do ichat with a free aim account too, not just .mac or mobile me.

That’s like an editor’s worst nightmare 😉

May 1, 2009 at 4:06 pmDoesn’t iChat require you to export a QT and compress it before you even initiate a chat? What I am looking for is a live feed from my timeline streaming to my client.

May 1, 2009 at 4:11 pmThe latest version of iChat has Screen Sharing built in. You can share your screen live, not just sending videos. I have not used it for this purpose, so I’m not sure how well it would work, but in theory it could.
At the bottom of your Buddy List it is the button to the far right that looks like two squares connected together.

May 2, 2009 at 8:27 pmSlingbox works, but has a delay dependent on connection speed. We’ve seen 10 – 15 second lag. Your client has to download the Slingbox client. You feed Slingbox video & sound and your client watches on their laptop. Only one remote client can watch at a time. https://www.slingmedia.com/
