  • Final Cut Pro + Canon 5D Mark II needs to render all the time

Hi! Im editing Canon 5D Mark II footage on Final Cut Studio 2 (Academic). And for some reason everytime I apply a filter, I need to render. Any filter like rays, smoothcam, needs to render every time I move something on the filter settings.

Im importing the 1080p quicktime movies into FCP, should I do something special, Do I need a decoder or something? Because I notice everyone can use FCP realtime but me.

I presume you have read the current thread on the Canon 5D Mark II and I suggest you search for the many other threads that deal with this camera.

It is a very common subject at the moment and this has been dealt with a lot in the past month.

You haven’t said what your work flow is. That camera shoots in a h.264 codec. h.264 is not an editing codec. All your material must first be transcoded into ProRes or ProResHQ before editing. Only then will you get RT functionality. However, only filters that are bold in filters list are RT and require no rendering.
