    Introducing:
    A digital clapperboard.
It’s got all the functionality of a hardware digital clapperboard.

BUT, (and this is the catch)
It can also play back music on one channel,
while outputiing LTC on the other.
This makes shooting/editing a video clip a breeze.
(all your clips have common TC, you know exactly what goes where)

And all of this at less than 5 % of the cost of a hardware digital slate!
(Assuming you bring the laptop or tablet PC)

On top of that, it can output for iPod or iPhone!
Thus, you’ll have a TC generator / slate on your iPod or iPhone.
Now how cool is that? (i would say, way sub zero…)

Okay, I’ll bite. How does it get t/c in and out of an iPhone? Neither website nor manual seem to have any explanation for this.

    Nick,

iPhone or iPod does not get TC in, only out. (there is no audio In on those things…)

If you want to use one of the mobile devices:
Use your MAC to generate a TC slate file, export to iPhone / iPod, and use that on the set for playback and for AUX TC, or slave your cam.

I’ll write more manuals / tutorials when i have time.

    Meanwhile, just toy with it.
You get your song with LTC combined, and that ‘should’ give you enough to go on.

If not, just wait for the tutorials.

A producer I work with uses her ipod to record scratch tracks that sound great. Uses the iMic I think.

Someone needs to reinvent the Newton shot logger for iphone with wifi or bluetooth transmission of TC. Then of course wifi back to the computer.

    It’ll happen.

BlueTooth output on Iphone is mono only, not really practical for video clip work, as you need both TC and song.
However, for syncing multicam it could work fine. But then, how far does bluetooth reach?

[Bouke Vahl] “But then, how far does bluetooth reach?”

Ten meters on a good day.

Which is a good thing! I don’t need the speakerphone in my car ringing when I’m in the store!

But my point of bluetooth or wifi was to transmit tc to an app for logging. Like shotlogger. It’d be great to have a thumbnail or qt video transmitted as well. There would have to be some sort of FW/HDMI/SDI to wifi/bluetooth adapter on the camera.

When shooting SD, I’ve been the logger a few times with a 20 or 30ft fw cable to a laptop running FCP. I log and check video levels with the waveform. I can also see audio levels. Usually capturing isn’t possible while the tape is running on older cams.
