I was all set to have a productive evening of work, but then I run into a maddening problem…When I import Illustrator files, everything just shows up black. The artwork’s just not there.

I’ve tried importing as footage and comp, changed the comp background color, checked my visibility and solo switches. Still…bubkes.

I’m sure this is a common gotcha, remedied by some simple switch somewhere. But right now, I’m scratchin’ my head.

    Anyone?

(Adding on to the previous post)

I’ve also tried doing this in an entirely new project, and get the same problem.

Help me Obi Wan COWnobi…you’re my only hope.

Ok, narrowing down the problem a bit. It’s something with the specific AI file I’m trying to import. I’m able to import other AI files no problem.

You might try saving the file out of Illustrator as an older version. I instinctively save Illustrator files meant for AE as “Illustrator Version 10.” When you choose Save As… you will be given a dropdown menu to select legacy versions.

You shouldn’t have to revert to such an old AI format. You can use the current AI format, as long as you enable the PDF compatible checkbox when saving.
