  • Consolidating Render Files

    Hello,
I made a mess by having multiple scratch folders on different drives. I have many different versions of the project with different render folders, many of which share the same render files.

I need to free up space and want to delete the render files that are not in use and consolidate the ones I need for the latest and final project to a single scratch disk folder. Can anyone tell me the most effective way to handle this? I can’t tell what I still need and what is obsolete using the render manager. And I don’t want to copy or move or do anything to the original PRoRes media so I am a bit wary of using Media Manager. Can you point me to a tutorial on this or give me a clue? And yes,I promise to be more organized next time!
    Thank you,
    Oscar

Delete all your render files from the Render Manager.

You can always re-render your project.

That makes sense but when I tried deleting them the timeline freezes up and I get death by colorwheel. Then I have to forcequit and start over. It doesn’t like the render being pulled out from under it. If I delete the render files without the project open then the project freezes up when I do open it. A bit strange and buggy. It’s a ProRes sequence and the files are a bit large.

Sounds like a corrupt file/s and not the render files.

Since you have media all over the place, try consolidating and drag and drop your media onto 1 or 2 drives. From there, re-connect your media.
