  Syncing clips for RED camera

  Hi there,
  I will be starting soon a project shot on the RED camera, and I am new to whole the process. On top of it, I moved to FC from Avid fairly recently, so i was wondering if anybody could help.

  The sound will be recorded separately from the picture, but with the same TC as the camera. I assume I will sync up the two by merging the clips with the timecode…now, when they gave me a basic training of working with the RED they told me I should NEVER change a clip’s name because then it might cause problems when re linking it to the original, full resolution one. When I merge clips on FC though, the software changes the name to ====(clip name)-Merged.
  Would this cause any problems in the online?

  Don’t know about the online workflow, but:

  If you sync in FCP, you have to do each clip by hand.
  (meaning, selecting the corresponging BWF files with the video, and select ‘merge’)

  Quite tedious if you have lots of clips.
  I’ve made a solution for that.
  My AUX TC reader now comes with a helper application that can paste the BWF files into your (proxy) QT’s. (based on BWF TC and QT TC
  This way the names won’t be altered, and it will save you some time.
