I wish FCP had submix audio tracks like Premiere has.

When we do rough cuts of shows we also have to do guide audio mixes (a common practise nowdays) and when I have to dip for dialog and have 8 effects tracks and 4 music tracks it really is a chore doing each one individually. In Premiere I use to mix effects to a group and the music to a group and just dip those.

But I can live with the benefits that FCP offer over Premiere alone but it would be nice (along with track naming… oh the list goes on…)

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

You can mix in realtime using the audio faders in the Audio Tool.

I think Baz is wanting to be able to route tracks to a pre mix bus and then dip all the music or FX with one master fader, not dipping multiple faders.

Another way to do this would be to link track faders so that multiple tracks can be dipped together by moving one tracks fader. This is more likely with FCP than expecting the software to support busses but either way, it points to the clumsy nature of FCP audio.

You can nest a bunch of tracks and control the audio that way.

Does anyone know of a filter that will automatically “duck” volume in response to another track’s level? Classic example – the music track against voice over?

    regards to all

Soundtrack Pro might allow you to do this (and group tracks to a submix). I’m not very familiar with STP as I use Pro Tools, but I’m sure they share similar functionality. In Pro Tools you can use side-chain compression, limiting, gating, etc. by feeding a signal from one track, say your VO, to a compressor/limiter/gate on another track (or submix), thereby affecting that track. Here’s a link with a more in-depth explanation.
