I’m putting 2 lower third text graphics (targa files with alpha) over some video. I want to dissolve between them. I add a cross dissolve and the result is some weird deal where the first graphic fades almost all the way out before the other starts and the text in the places where the two graphics intersect is almost full video. Very odd looking.

I can get the proper looking cross dissolve by placing the graphics on two different video tracks overlapping by the number of frames needed for the dissolve then applying a cross dissolve starting on the edit on one track and ending on the edit on the other. It looks like a dissolve done in a switcher – the way it should look.

Am I missing something or is this the only way to make a proper cross dissolve between to alpha-keyed graphics?

If possible nest your lower third with the video on V1 leaving handles if needed for the transition. Then add a transition between the 2 nested clips.
I’ve seen others use the nodes to manually create the transition.

    good luck,
