  Flickering out-of-place frames

  Howdy.

  I am running FCP (6.0) on a Intel Dual Core Duo 2.2 GHZ (or similar speed) 17-inch MacBook Pro with 2 GB RAM and an external FW 800 1 TB drive which still has plenty of (hundreds) free Gigabytes.

  I haven’t upgraded to 6.0.2 because I am in the midst of finishing a feature-length documentary and won’t risk the change at this point.
  I am unsure of which QT version the mac has, it’s not my computer and I am not at it right now, but I am sure it is not up-to-date completelly. I know an update would be the first move, but I would like to try to see if it’s something else.

  My problem started when I connected an external Samsung LCD display, to get more room to work with. Coincidence or not, I don’t know. What happens sometimes, with or without the external display connected, is that I’ll open up the project and play the timeline (HDV, Upper Field, 29.97 fps) from the start or somewhere around there. And instead of seeing the clip in question, where the playhead is, I get a flickering of frames that appear to be traces of other points in the sequence, apparently rendered text frames. I think there is some connection to renders, and perhaps to the video card ram. Zapping the Parameter Ram (restarting several times holding down P,R, ALT, APPLE) solves the problem temporarily, coincidence or not. Could it also be related to the external drive? One odd detail is that one time I exported out the 1-hour-plus sequence to Final Cut quicktime movie, and the flickering also exported along, so it makes me feel like a render issue.

  Any ideas illuminating this issue will be much appreciated!

  Hi Alan,
  Look in the FC Render folder and delete the “Constant Frame” renders.
