    Cow Masters,

As Princess Lea said “Help me Obiwan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.”

We have a feature film to FCP problem that is urgent as the production is in day 4 with TC Problems. The Capture offset option is not working on 3 systems at 2 different facilities. FCP and Kona support have no idea as well as some experts we have contacted.

We telecine 35mm to HDCam SR 1080p. We then batch capture that tape to FCP 720p 23.98. We set the Capture Offset to -1 frame to be sure the conversion delay corrects the TC of the first frame. It must match the Cinematools database made during telecine.

On 3 separate systems (all 6.0.5 FCP, Kona 6.0.3, OS 10.5.6) the capture offset using several frame settings made no difference in the TC at the head punch of the film. What can we be doing wrong? We feel certain this has worked in the past, but not now.

    Thanks, Film Joe

    Joe

Same issue here – did you find a fix?

Macs, FCP, Avid, Nitris DX, Color, HDCAM…

    Peter,

No, I think you are the only responder. You see it too? It should work, but we can’t tell why. Are you using a Kona 3 or other capture device?

    Thanks, Film Joe

    joe..

    try something.

Try capturing using VTR exchange, since this appears to be a TC error in FCP not in what the Kona is doing, if that is true you can use VTR Xchange to handle the capture correctly without FCP.

Gary, thanks for the response. Kona suggested we try that, but it will not work as we need to batch capture which has to be done in FCP. At this point we are manually adding 1 frame on each scene and take in the ALE list (before input to CinemaTools) and then removing one frame in the timeline to be sure it matches the original telecine TC. Quite an ordeal for a feature.

    Thanks, Film Joe
