  Creating an “American Idol” style Audience

  Hello smart people.

  I’m wondering how the “Audience” or “Crowd” is created in the American Idol intro. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Their sort of in a silhouette style while cheering. I found this link in another post… audience is a bit different than the American Idol setup, but even something like this would work for me:

  Is the crowd in American Idol actual footage then tweaked to look like their just animations or are they indeed animations?

  And one other thing… could someone post a link to the “Belief” or “Believe” tutorial I’ve seen mentioned.

  I’m sure if you contacted Fremantle they’d give you
  an email of the designers who actually comp the
  idents and things.

  You’ve got a lot of freedom by designing you people
  in Lightwave or 3DSMax et al. – which is what the
  American Idol artists possibly used – but greenscreening
  10 or so friends and then cloning them in AE is also doable
  – and moreover, quicker.

  If they aren’t a key component of your animation, even
  2D gfx created with Photoshop (and/or Flash) would
  suffice.
