  • Huge files to Prores??

I have some old files in my capture scratch folder that were captured when I first got FCP and had no idea what I was doing. They’re HDV that I believe were captured uncompressed. I want to turn these into Prores files in Compressor to save some space. Is this the best workflow?? As these are the original files, I want keep the compression as lossless as possible. Thanks in advance.

HDV is tiny, basically the same as DV. Open the files in QuickTime and open the inspector to see what they really are.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Hey Chris

Sorry I didn’t get back sooner. Thanks for taking the time to respond. The files were captured in FCP Log and Capture as uncompressed HD files. I’ve compressed one file in Compressor using the HDV 1080i codec. It took it from 350 gigs down to 8 gigs and when played back to back with the original uncompressed file in QT, it is indistinguishable from the original. Do you have an opinion on this method I really wouild like to delete the originals as I only have 2TB of storage and these 3 files eat up almost 900G.
