    Hey gang,
I just got footage from a music video that was shot with two different cameras (A2 and DVX 100b) – both using 60i. They also have some standard DV footage.
I only have the DVX 100b as a deck.
I was wondering what would be the best capture preset so I wouldn’t lose any information, and what would be the best sequence preset, knowing that I will be importing the standard def?
    I have FCP6.
There is no capture preset for 720 x 480 60i. I tried the different HDVs, but they would not recognize the camera, and I am afraid that DV NTSC might take away some of the quality from the 60i. Can you please recommend audio video settings?
    Thanks a million.
PS – This is my first time working with 60i, any other recommendations or things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated!

I’m confused. What is the A2? Could it be the Canon XH-A1? The DVX-100B shoots only in standard def, DV. It can’t play back an HDV 1080i60 tape–only DV.

    Hey Tom,
The camera was the Canon AH-A2. It shot in standard definition, not HD, hence it can play on a DVX-100b. Both cameras shot in 60i. They also have some behind the scenes from a GL-1 to be added in.

In FCP there is no clear “Capture Preset” for 720×480 60i. I understand that it’s 29.97, but there are many other presets for other types of 60i, so I was hoping to get the optimal settings of capture and sequence to maximize the image.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

DV NTSC 48 khz. That’s the preset to use. 720×480 IS NTSC material and IS 60 interlaced fields per second. You will NOT lose any information as that is exactly how it’s encoded onto the tapes.
