QT export question
Posted by George Bonilla on February 27, 2009 at 3:22 amHi guys, I am exporting for dubbing as per a tutorial I read online. I am a bit worried. The video export took about 22 hours. Now the audio says it will take 3 days (I know it will drop). Is this normal? The movie is 2 hours long. I just don’t want to sit here for days and then it crash or give me an error? I am exporting a QT movie.

February 27, 2009 at 4:08 amWithout giving us details about that tutorial you’re following there’s no way anyone has a clue. Why didn’t you simply export a self contained QT that matches your rendered timeline? That’s fast and as good as it gets in almost every case.

February 27, 2009 at 5:42 amSorry, even though I am a regular editor I am still a novice! I used these settings PNG, Millions of colors, Linear PCM, Sterio R L, Render BEST, Sample size 16
Does this help? Thanks guys, you are the best in the world. -

February 27, 2009 at 8:56 amWell, it tells me what, but not why. It doesn’t explain why you chose to export using something other than as a self contained QT Movie using current settings, which is identical to your timeline in every way. What do you think you’re gaining?

February 27, 2009 at 7:07 pmHi David, thanks for the response. I only used those settings because I was going by what an article said to use. I, like so many others, searched the question “How do I export a high quality movie” The answer came up from DVcreators.net That is the only reason. Is there a better step by step that you can point me to? I have to do this 3 more times! Thanks again for any info

February 27, 2009 at 7:25 pmGeorge,
YOu said you were outputting for a dub, right? In that case, as I’ve said previously, Export>>Quicktime Movie – make sure self contained is checked, do not check recompress all frames, and make usre that using current settings is selected. That’s always going to export an exact duplicate of your rendered timeline.
BTW, what are your timeline settings (what code are you editing?).

February 27, 2009 at 11:12 pmThnks David, this has now been running for 3 days and now is saying the disk is full! 500 GB of render files! Will the export as you said be OK for the dub? They need separate Music and Effects (M&E) tracks.

February 28, 2009 at 8:50 pmHi David, again I hate to sound likie a novice. You would think I would be pretty good by now. But what codes are you refering too? Also, did you see my last questions about separate M & E tracks? I finally stopped the version I was trying to do the other way. It has ran for 4 days and the render files were massive (469 GB)? Youe answers are greatly appreciated and I will try the method you mention next. If you tell me this will work for the separate M & E. Is there any setting I need to get this to work with separte tracks?
