What are the exact specs of your system?
What type of footage are you dealing with?
Where and how are you storing this footage?Samuel Hall

February 18, 2009 at 5:39 pmOk,
Macbook – FCP 5 – Mac 10.9.4
I save projects in the FCP default. some projects I have completed I store on ext hard drive. My projects are small 20sec – 10 min projects, DV files, Mov, Jpeg, etc nothing too big at all.

February 18, 2009 at 5:43 pmwhere should I be saving, and how do I clean up FCP and start again by moving all files to EXt hard drive, without disrupting too much and loosing stuff.

February 18, 2009 at 6:14 pmEditing video files on your Startup Disk can slow you down a bit but probably not as bad as what you’re describing, unless you’ve got less than 10% of that disk free. I’d recommend always storing your footage on an external drive when possible.
DiskWarrior, as Rafael suggested is a great option for directory repair. Well worth the money.

February 18, 2009 at 8:11 pmthanks,
so heres what I have done, change the settings on autosave, rendered file, audio etc on FCP from Mac HD to external HD, thereby all new project savings will go to Ext HD, also moved Final cut pro document to Ext HD. Is this a start?
anymore actions that might help performance?

February 18, 2009 at 8:36 pmAre you running FCP 5.0 or 5.1? If you are running 5.0 your performance will always suffer because 5.0 and below is all PPC based software which has to be run in emulation so it works w/your Intel based Mac.
