  • Re-install, can’t find previous serial number.

I’m re-installing fcpstudio2 and the install rejected the serial # and asked for my original serial #. I guess what they really want is the first serial # for studio or fcp suite, I’ve had them all as well as every version of fcp.

I registered everything on line when I got it, but can’t find any earlier serial numbers now because I moved. I’m sure I’m not the first one with this problem. If I call apple in the morning, do you think they can get it from their data base?

I don’t think so. You will most likely need to find that SN. When you find it keep it with the SN for the new one.

Hopefully they can. All my Adobe serials are online at adobe.com. It’s a nice setup. I can printout a single page with all my registrations.

Whew, I found a solution without having to wait til morning to ask apple for my serial # (though I’m curious if that’s a way to retrieve it). I read, maybe somewhere in these forums a good suggestion that worked.

On a backup drive I had, fortunately, the older version. What luck! I booted onto that drive, opened fcp and in the menu “about fcp” i got the screen with my serial number.

Now, it’s taped to the same box as my new install disks, along with the new serial number.

I really appreciate these forums, especially for these after hours predicaments.
