Hello. I have been working on a few movies on final cut pro at home, and all my scratch disks were set to my external hard drive. 2 days ago, my hard drive just stopped working. I have contacted the manufacturer and I have come to terms with the fact that I have lost everything I have been editing on. So today I tried to open Final Cut to begin reimporting footage (which i want to just save to my computer’s hard drive) but the scratch disk message appears because it cannot find my external drive which is dead and gone. It is trying to find the scratch disk for a project that i am trying to start over. Since it can’t (and will never) find the scratch disk, it seems i cannot do anything on final cut. All i want is to create a new project file and begin again, but the program seems to be stuck on opening this project that no longer exists. Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

You should be able to reset the scratch disk to any other drive. Have you tried that?
