  • Render files won’t render general error

Can’t figure this out! I sent a drive to the distributor for them to dump a project over to tape. When they try and open the fcp files a lot of the render files are missing. When he attemps to re-render it goes half way then gives him an error code and stops. I opened the file several times on my computer to test it. It opened fine. He has the newer fcp (6.0) and I have 5.2. He has updated the project but it just will not render? Please help. Everytime they have to send it back from LA it costs me.

    Close and Open final cut.

and also try to free up some space on the drive you are working on.

If it has minimal or no space the render won’t work correctly.. i’ve had this problem before and ended up just transfering everything to a new totally open drive and havent had the problem since.

Also remember to set the scratch discs EVERY time you open it to the same folder or it will lose render files

You probably have a filter that does not work on the distributors system. The best way to avoid this is to set your render directory to the hard drive and render the project before sending it; run media manager to copy the project to the drive and include render files; or export a self contained quicktime and send just that.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the answers. Unfortunately it did not work. He still has render files missing and when he tries to
re-render he gets the general error code. I did test the drive on 3 different computers before we sent and it worked and opened fine? What would you suggest? He did trash the render files then tried to re-render. He did try and re-start. I did send it with the render files. Could it be because his system is a 6.0 fcp and I did it on 5.2 fcp? I jsut don’t know/ Here is his reponse:
    Hey George,

I tried these various “fixes” and I am still unsuccessful. Maybe you should take back the hard drive and re-render everything. Then just send us an uncompressed video file, audio track and m&e track.

[george bonilla] “Then just send us an uncompressed video file, audio track and m&e track.”

That would be my suggestion too. Just export a QuickTime movie with current settings.
