  • Why is it rendering my footage?

Posted by Jason Brown on February 11, 2009 at 7:16 pm

I’m using 1920×1080 EX HD footage in a matching sequence…green bar above timeline. The video is a render from After Effects, footage plays back fine.

If I leave the system with auto-render set…it will render that footage but then it doesn’t play back smoothly.

I can turn auto render off…but why does rendered footage not play back smoothly? It does the same whether my render settings are set to pro-res EX or Same as Sequence.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks,

    -Jason

What is the framerate of your project? If the footage from After Effects was not rendered back to XDCAM EX, it will require a render. If it is rendered to XDCAM EX, your framerate is probably off. I’m going to take a shot in the dark and guess that you’re working with 23.976 footage. If you rendered your footage out of After Effects at 23.98, it will stutter. Final Cut abbreviates 23.976 as 23.98 but it is not 23.98. When you create your comp in after effects, I would double check that it is at 23.976 and not 23.98

    You are EXACTLY correct.

we are working at 24p and the timeline in Final Cut said 23.98 so I rendered to that…I’ll try the 23.976 render from AFX and let you know what happens!

    Thanks.

You were exactly right…the problem was 29.976…it would be nice if Apple wouldn’t assume that you know it’s being truncated!

Thanks so much for your help…I’m really understading the Final Cut product so much more!
