    Hi everybody! I’m going crazy!

I’ve got something due terribly soon and AE keeps crashing like crazy! I’m on a PowerPC G5 dual 2 with 8 GB RAM. I’m working with a comp that is 3150×1050 and everytime I open this comp AE either crashes with the error message above. This comp is a week or so old and I haven’t changed that much and earlier I had been able to render lower-res QTs from it. I was even able to preview frames at full-res. It has a stationary camera with two lights and 2 layers with 3D invigorator in them. I searched forums for about an hour last night with no luck. Please help!!!!

    Thanks in advance

Ensure that you ahve the latest version of Zaxwerks that’s compatible with AE7. If that’s alright then switch off OpenGL in the AE’s preferences/preview/display settings. And if that’s not doing it too then look into your OS settings and switch off hardware acceleration.

    Hi,

Thanks for replying so fast. I looked up everything you suggested and still no dice. I’m trying to back and find an older project file. But even that isn’t working. I think I may have a corrupt project or comp. Perhaps a plug-in is bad in there. It is very touchy right now, freezing even while working in a nested comp inside the one that seems to cause the crash.

OK, I just tried to render it again. With the same result. So frustrating.

Now I just tried to reduce the project (it was pretty big) to only this comp. I was able to preview a frame at 1/8 resolution. I also went down to 8-bit for the comp. Still no render. I just tried to copy all the layers to paste into a fresh comp and I got a beachball and blammo…bye bye AE.

Sounds like a memory-related issue. Lots to test out here –
    1) Remove one of the Zaxwerks layers to see if that helps – you may have to render each separately (a pre-render for each one)
    2) If your lights and camera are animating, ensure that they don’t share the same position at any point in time – never heard of this happening or causing an issue but I’d still look into it – deperate situation calls for desperate action.
    3) Reduce the size of your comp
    4) Transfer the project onto another machine – or maybe even put a copy here for someone else to have a look-see

    Good Luck

THANKS A LOT, ROLAND. SORRY FOR TYPING IN ALL CAPS BUT I’VE ACTUALLY GOT IT TO RENDER! (SO I HAVE CAPS-LOCK ON TO STOP THE REFRESH).

WHAT I ENDED UP DOING WAS DELETING MY TEXT LAYERS AND A CONTINUOUSLY RASTERIZED LOGO AND SWITCHED IT TO STANDARD 3D. I CAN RE-COMPOSITE THE TEXT LATER.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS. WHAT A WEIRD ISSUE.

Ahh, I tohught you were upset. 😉

You didn’t mention the text layers and logo. Pre-rendering helps a lot when working with high-res layers, 3D or otherwise. You may want to render to sequenced stills in case the render fails mid-way. Better safe than sorry.

Hope things work out – live and learn bro.

    Cheers
