I have a Sony Z7u and Final Cut Studio 2. I am currently running FCP 6.0 My question is this, my camera will shoot 1080i60, 1080p30, and 1080p24. I can see easy setups for HDV 1080i60 and 1080p24 but no setup 1080p30. Do I need a more current version of FCP in order to firewire the 1080p30 into the mac? Is there another setting that I can use? I beleive that the progressive modes are native and not recorded with pulldown added (or so the manual says) if you so choose on the Sony Z7u and the new Z5u. Maybe at the end of the day the progressive formats are recorded in the 1080i wrapper. Not completly sure, can someone set me straight? By the way, this is my first HDV camcorder. My other camera is a Sony F350.

Yes. 1080p30 is really 1080psf30, which means it’s technically played back @ 60i but each frame is split across two fields, instead of having 60 discreet fields. Use the 60i setting, then make sure to make your sequence have a field dominance of ‘none’ and make sure your clips do as well. You can change them all at once when they are in the browser.
