  Background Blur effect

  How do you create an effect where everything in the background of a clip is blurred except for the person in the foreground?

  If they are separate layers then you simply apply a blur to the lower layer, but seeing as you’re asking this question I’ll assume that they are not separate layers =)

  The best option would probably be separating them into 2 different layers, with an unaffected foreground on top and a blurred background behind it. Another option is creating a matte for the person you don’t want blurred and using Blur>Compound Blur, but if you’re creating a matte anyway you might as well just separate the foreground into a different layer =)
