  Capturing footage shot in 16:9

  I recently shot some footage using the 16:9 function on my video camera.
  Can someone please tell me the best way to edit this footage in Final Cut. I keep reading contradictory information. Do I set the capture settings to anamorphic as well as the project setting? OR do i edit it in regular 4:3. What about the black bars? When I watch the DVD on my widescreen television will i see them? Any advice or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!

  No, set your sequence to whatever you shot in. If you shot mini DV set it to DV NTSC Anamorphic.

  Regardless of what you choose, when you import your first clip, if it asks you if you want to change sequence settings tell it no and the sequence will be changed to what you clip is. If you still don’t know what files you are working with at that point go up to Sequence>Settings and it will tell you what the current files are.

  Yes.

  No. But your broadcast video monitor must support 16:9, if not your image will appear stretched (but normal in FCP)

  There should be no black bars if you shot anamorphic and are editing with everything set anamorphic.

  No. Not if you have the correct settings all the way through (that means your DVD Player, your widescreen monitor, and your compression settings in Compressor).
