  Audio Edit- Viewer Playhead controls Timeline Playhead

  I’m doing a transcript of my movie, and have a pretty basic question when editing audio. I have an audio clip in the timeline and I want to know the timecode of the exact frame when I begin speaking. If I double the audio clip in the timeline, it opens the clip in the Viewer where I can see a large waveform and find the exact frame easily. Now the problem is the timecode is according to that particular clip and there’s no reference for the timeline. Is there a command for the timeline playhead to match the playhead position in the viewer? I know if I do vice-versa, where if I move the timeline playhead and double click the clip, the playhead position in the viewer will change. Any info would be much appreciated!

  make a new sequence. drop the original sequence into the new sequence (it should look like one big clip). Then right click>open in viewer.

  So, please explain, what’s so hard about I.D.ing the exact frame of audio on the timeline?

  In the screen grab below, from the FCP timeline, the first modulation is very easily identified, and the insert of the timecode window (also from the timeline) indicates the exact frame. I don’t get it, what’s the big deal?

  Got my answer:

  In either the Viewer or the Canvas, directly above the image are three pop-up menus.
  Choose the middle one, Playhead Sync, and set it to Open.

  I’m going to guess that Alexander is new to FCP.

  In addition to the ganging, you have TC displays in the timeline, viewer and canvas windows. And you can turn on TC overlays in the viewer & canvas windows. All of this is in the (ahem) manual.
