    Hi all,

I’m having some issues with audio “popping/clicking” on capture.

The source tape is DVCAM with audio recorded at 32Khz (not my choice). I’ve set my capture settings to NTSC/DV 32Khz.

I am capturing from a Sony DVCAM deck via firewire. Right now, that’s my only option as I require an adapter for my RS422 cable.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this audio issue?

I have about 20 hours of tape to capture over the weekend and hope that I can find a solution soon.

Thanks so much for your responses.

    FireWire is what you want.

Can you hear any clicking when you just listen to a tape directly
    through the deck’s headphone out?

Have you tried setting FCP to the 48kHz audio setting and capturing?

(I never change from 48KHz and still capture 38kHz audio with no problems.)

Tape audio sounds fine when listening to deck through headphones.

Originally I was set to 48kHz and had the crackling problem. That’s when I discovered the tapes were 32kHz and switched capture settings. The problem didn’t get any better or worse with the switch.

I’ve also tried a different firewire cable… with no improvement.

    Thanks Don,

I’m off my system (after 10 hours of capturing) and will try the 32kHx 4-channel tip in the morning.

For now, and who knows how much a mess things will be when I edit and export, I found a simple tip on the Cow.

Someone posted with a similar problem and the response was to turn off audio preview while capturing. It looked a bit ridiculous as a solution, but I gave it a shot and it works like a charm.

I don’t know if this is a bug with FCP but it certainly raised my eyebrows after hours of searching for a more technical explanation.

    Thanks again for your response.
