So I think I’ve read every single thread about this topic and I’d just like some opinions on the best way to get quality WMVs from Final Cut Pro.
We don’t do WMVs very often, but we still have clients request it occasionally. My company has purchased the full version of Flip4Mac and I still have problems getting it to export out of Final Cut. It will get to a certain point in the export process and just stop progressing. The same thing seems to happen when trying to convert in MPEG Streamclip. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve made sure I have the latest updates on Flip4Mac.

I’ve seen a lot of people on here say they still use Sorenson Squeeze with no problems or the Windows Media Encoder on a PC. I’m not familiar with these two methods.

Does anyone else have problems with Flip4Mac even with the full version? Would I be better off using another method?

There’s really only one reason Flip4Mac fails to run: improper installation or authorization. If it stops, does it stop at the exact same place very time? Do both of these apps stop at the exact same place?

We use Flip on a daily basis. The settings are confusing but we get excellent results. Not sure but I think Sorenson requires Flip to do WMVs. Haven’t used a Sorenson product for many years.

I have had this same problem and I fix it by dropping the quality a little. I think it defaults to 90 and I just drop it to like 80? and then it will complete. I could go into more theory about why it is happening but I won’t.

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

The only time I have experienced an encode just stopping is if I have not authorized Flip4mac and essentially it runs in trial mode. Are you exporting straigt from the timeline? Sometimes I have better success outputing a FCP Mov file then converting it via Quicktime pro.

I normally export quicktime and then with visualhub or episode convert it with no problem.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think my Flip4Mac needs to be reinstalled or something. So I’m going to try that and see if all is well. Thanks again!
