.mov files becoming corrupt
Hi,
Ive been importing a whole bunch of tape from my HDV camera to my mac and a lot of it is fine but some of the footage keeps somehow corrupting itself after a few hours. After i import the footage everything seems fine with the file but it inevitably stops working and when i try to reopen the FCP project the program just crashes.
When i go to the .mov file in finder it is the same size but it doesnt show a thumbnail and when i open it in QT its just a big black screen with no sound. When I open it in VLC I get sound but no screen.Could it be something to do with the tape? This comfuses me a bit but it seems to be with the same bit of footage over and over.
Any help would be great.

Does the footage work right after you import it?
If the file doesn’t play right after you import it then it probably that section of the tape that has a problem.

The footage does work for a while after I’ve imported. I can even edit with the footage for a while but it all tends to go haywire when I restart FCP or I turn my mac off.

I’m using a reformatted 500gb hard drive. It’s probably not the best but I’ve tried moving the files to a western digital HD and even the computers HD but they still have the same result.
Do you think the outcome could be different if I tried importing directly onto the Mac’s main HD?

Did you get any help with this? I’m experiencing the same problem and it’s never happened before. I’m using GCP 5.1. When I drag a .mov file into a project, or import it from within FCP, I get a general error saying file type not recognized. Then the file on my hard drive has no thumbnail, will not play, but the file size is the same. Somehow FCP is recoding the file so it cannot be accessed even though all the data is still there. Did you get any help, or does anyone else have the same problem or any ideas?
