Final Cut Pro 6.0 Render take 10 Day
Hi Guys,
i am new to FCP 6.0, we had met a strange problem when we RENDER a single video sequence to our fiber raid,it will take long than expected.
Here’s our set up
1)Mac OS X server 10.5.4
cpu=2×2.8GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon
memory = 8GB 800MHz FB-DIMM
Display = Ati Radeon X1300
Storage = External 16 bay Fibre RAID
FC Card =LSI7404EPFibre RAID SEtup=
RAID LEVEL = 5 and 1
1 RAID5 x 7 disk =1 LV
1 RAID5 x 7 disk= 1LV
1 RAID1 x 2 disk = 1 LVXSAN Configuration
Strip Breadths =64
Metadata =1 LV of raid1 x 2disk
Video Volume =2 LV combined (ROUND ROBIN)
SPOTLIGHT=disableFCP SETTINGS=
RT SETTING =SAFE
VIDEO SIZE =1080i 60Now, if we use XSAN tuner using FINAL CUT PRO READ and WRITE, we dont see
any problem with the performance but if we render it from the FCP 6.0,
the WRITING VIDEO takes around 10days to complete.a single sequence should not
take this longer.On the above hardware and software setup, i do not believe the settings is
slow. any help?Thanks,

Hi james,
With FC 6.0 you can have every kind of problems.
Was updated few days after the release.
You better update to FC 6.0.4-5

I had upgrade FCP 6.0 to FCP 6.0.5 ,Writing Video during RENDER still the same it takes around 10days. Now I am using EFFECT HANDLING set to FINAL CUT PRO,Format =OFFLINE RT.

Are you rendering on the server? What are the system specs of the machine FCP is running on?

That’s the setup of the xsan server right?
Are you running Final Cut on that machine – or are you running it on another mac connected to the xsan?

Yes, exactly it is the setup of a Server.
and I am running final cut pro 6.0 on this machine.James

It’s not really recommended to run Final Cut on the same machine as the xsan. The xsan should really be a dedicated server… Have you tried connecting another machine to your xsan to see if it has the same render problems?

Hi Stuart,
I use another video file to be render and it give me 18minutes to finish.It seems
the previous files is having a problem with FCP 6.0.5. Its a wmv 1060i, also i install flip4mac.Any ideas have to render compress video format?

This is your problem right here.
Final Cut is not really designed to work natively with Windows Media Files. You need to convert this windows media file into a different codec. You can do this with quicktime or compressor. For this file a conversion to the Prores codec would probably be best.
Also 1060i isn’t really a standard format…
