  Conforming different video resolutions

  I am working on conforming two different finished short videos onto one sequence which will then be exported as a Quicktime and played as a loop on a wide screen TV. One is in Apple Pro Res 1920×1080 and the other is HDV 1440×1080. Being a FCP novice, I am having difficulty figuring out how to bring the two together to have the best quality video. Any suggestions people have would be greatly appreciated.

  I am working on a MacPro with the latest version of FCP.

  Capture the HDV into 1920×1080 ProRes via hardware.

  The HDV is a finished video and cannot be easily re-captured. Any other possibilities of dealing with this? Would it be possible, for example, to export the HDV video at 1920×1020 ProRes and then to import it into a new sequence?

  Then why not just put the HDV clips in a ProREs timeline and render?

  What do you mean by finished video? The edit is done? WHy can’t you recapture?

  If I put the HDV video in the ProRes timeline and render will that change HDV video so that it matches the ProRes video? These are two separate videos that are being combined and then shown together as a loop.

  If I was able to recapture the original HDV footage, do I change the User settings in order to capture it as ProRes?

  Can I batch digitize to recapture the footage?

  Is this on a DVD or what’s the source of this looping media?

  Both videos are finished FCP projects with Master sequences. They were shot with different cameras, one with a P2 Panasonic and the other with the Sony FX 7. What I am trying to do is to combine the video of the two sequences together onto a new sequence then export it and play it from a Mac laptop as a Quicktime loop on a wide screen TV.

  THanks again for this. Next time when you post, you shoudl include all of this information right off the bat, it saves on badnwidth! 🙂

  I would then export your HDV movie out of FCP and transcode it in Compressor to ProRes 1920×1080.

  Bring that back in and add it to your exisitng ProRes sequence and do what you need to it from there.
