  Compressor-estimated time keeps rising

  Hello,

  I am trying to bounce out a 1080i sequence using an MPEG 2 6.2Mbps 2-pass setting in Compressor. The sequence is just under three minutes.

  At first the estimated time for the bounce read 9 hours and began counting down. However this morning, although the progress bar was set at half way, the estimated time now read 11 hours. As the day has progressed it has kept on rising and now stands at 18.5 hours. Long! 🙂

  I really need to get on with this project and don’t really want to spend more than another night bouncing this piece out.

  I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this and could help with an estimation of time.

  Sounds a little too… outrageous for a 3-min sequence!

  I reckon you’re not working off a G3? ;]

  Not knowing your exact machine specs, I would recommend shutting down and restarting your Mac. Another recommendation would be to export a Self-Contained Quicktime and send that to Compressor, instead of a direct-from-FCP-to-Compressor route.

  Cancel the encode and check your assets. That number should continue to go down. If it doesn’t it never will…

  THis happened to me recently. I quit the encode, cleared my history and deleted the files out of /var/spool/qmaster.

  There’s also an app called Compressor Repair, but I haven’t tried it:

  I then reexported my movie, left the filename short and tried again. This worked. Don’t know if the filename has anything to do with it.

  You should always export a reference or self contained movie and then bring that to compressor. Don’t go straight form FCP to compressor.
