Hi guys I tried searching for this but couldnt find. I just purchased a new macpro core 8 computer. So just sold my current imac which i bought six months ago. I have Final Cut Studio on it. I need to delete it from the imac (before it goes to new owner) so i can install and use on the Mac Pro machine. But i dont know what to do as im scared that the serial number will be invalid when i install for second time on different machine.

Was going to use this to delete of the imac

then just hope that when install on macpro the existing serial number will allow me to access it on this machine. Will it work? Or do i need to put the cd in to uncheck it from one system in order to validate the serial number on another like I did with Photoshop cs3?

REformat the iMac. I mean back up all of your stuff, then insert the original iMac disk and run the system installer. Erase the drive and install the system. Then when it reboots and asks you to enter personal information…just hit QUIT. Then the next time they turn on the iMac, they can input all of their information.

This will then allow you to use FCP on your new system without concern about the serial number.

[Jason Laville] “just thought the serial number would only work on one system at a time?”

It will only work on one system at a time, correct. It can EXIST on multiple machines, but only used one at a time. The licensing agreement allows this to be installed on one desktop and one laptop, both owned by one entity…and cannot be used at the same time.

Just wipe the drive and get them a new computer.

Apple just notes who the software is licensed to. When you install it on a machine, it asks you to register it. If the machine has your information on it, than no problem.

Just know that when you move from one machine to the other, you are fine.
