I am working on a project for a friend with previously recorded tape. This video was filmed in LP mode (gag) and the videographer cannot remember the type of camera he used nor does he have access to said camera. I have a Sony FX1 and a Sony DSR11 deck and FCP. Is there anything I can do with this equipment to get the footage onto my computer? Neither the deck nor the camera will allow me to capture footage straight into FCP. Any McGuyver-like suggestions?

Gotta get a machine or camera that deals with the gagged format I’m afraid… and then DUB it to SP before you capture.

This is very disheartening news. The tape plays fine (seemingly) in the viewfinder of the FX1. Is it likely that I could use that to dub it onto the DSR deck? The reason I ask is because I will have to pay to rent out the deck for an afternoon and I’d like to get my odds of success before I pay out.

    Thanks!

DSR deck will not play back that tape, but if you can get it fed into that deck, then you can record it to SP as Jerry suggests.

The DSR-11 should play LP. Mine does.

Solution! Great joy! Dubbing from the FX1 to the DSR11 using S-Video cables did work, however dubbing using the firewire did not work. Thank you everyone for your suggestions!
