i like to create an extended transition between shots by interspersing 3 frames of each shot for a couple of seconds out of one shot and into the other. I do this manually by chopping out 3 frames every 6 from the shot on the upper track.

Is there a filter/transition which will do this automatically or is there a way i can create a custom transition using applescript or similar?

    Thanks,
    Jesse.

You could create a series of opacity keyframes that go to zero for 3 frames every six. You need to bring the opacity down in 1 frame, so 1 frame after the 1st kf at 100% opacity, make a kf at 0%. Similarly to go back to 100% you need a kf at 0% after 3 frames, then a kf at 100% in the next frame.

You could save that as a ‘favorite motion’ and reuse it.

A technique as described in my book.

    Stack the tracks
Blink filter to the upper track
    Adjust to taste
    Done

I wish I would have time to go through your book again and refresh all these interesting tips.

Thanks Kevin – the blink filter was what I had in mind but I couldn’t find it.

Ironically I think I own your book and I just haven’t had time to go through it in detail (thank god for the quick fix of the Cow).

Anyone still looking for a handy way of doing this (or something more organic) with great ease should help themselves to Luca’s Flash Transition … Luca has been putting together a really nice collection of FxScript plugins these last few months and the Dual Flicker Filter and Flash Transition are especially good examples.

I’m always happy to help, but who are we kidding here? The Blink filter is way easier, and Luca’s Dual Flicker plugin that Andy pointed out is really amazing. Wow!

You’re so right about the Cow – I remember toying with the blink effect when I first started with FCP and then forgetting all about it. The irony is that if I had needed to create that effect I would probably have done it the brute force way. I don’t know that it would have occurred to me to ask the cow first.

Now I know better! Thanks all!

I know this is an old post but I’m curious where I can still download the Luca plugins? Looks like the site’s download pages are down either permanently or for the moment. Maybe someone would be nice enough to mail them? 🙂
