  quicktime reference files play on mac but not in windows

  hey guys,

  i have a weird problem with quicktime reference files i made from an avid system.
  i shot a film and recorded the metarial uncompressed to avid. then i consolidated a bin with all the footage so i had my omfi files on an external hard drive. for these files i created quicktime reference files. so far so good.
  if i now connect the hard drive to a mac at home i can play back the files fine. but when i try to open the files in windows i only get a message that something is wrong with the linking. since windows is my primary work environment i need to get these files working in windows. i installed the newest codec i could find: avid le 1.9 on both mac and windows, so this issue seems not to be codec related…

  for any advice i would be really thankful

  The files you are creating are not “QT reference files,” as a reference file only refers to the unfderlying QTs, and thus cannot be played on any machine other than the same machine on which the originals reside.

  In your case, I would suggest that the problem with is the codec you originally captured, specifically that it is one of several QTs that are only compatible with Macs, or only playable on machines that have FCP installed. Which means, you probably need to transcode to a universal codec such as Photo JPEG.

  Or, perhaps, you drive is formatted for Mac and the media files cannot be accessed by the PC?
