We have an annoying little audio bug we’re trying to track down. We’re using the Sony M25u HDV deck. Video out through component. Audio out through RCA into mixer and out to analog audio in of AJA Kona LH. We’re using firewire basic to control the deck as per AJA white pages. During play of the deck, or playback of a captured clip we get a pulsing buzz on our audio. We’ve isolated it to the mac (deck is clean at headphone plug and rca outs)(mixer is clean at input/headset and output) and wondered if anyone has had this happen. Mac is PPC dual 2.7 with 4gbs ram. Using APC power backup. We’re taking that out of the loop next. Any more thoughts? Many thanks!

    Kind Regards,

Do you have genlock (or balckburst or reference) hooked up to your system?

If so, try putting the Kona is free run.

You’d need to talk to AJA if you’re sure the artifact is coming in as a result of a-to-d conversion via the AJA.
The card should be totally isolated, audio wise, from the power supply but it might be picking up RF from any source in your shop. Other sources of audio crosstalk can come from improperly shielded monitors, display cards, bad FW card, Airport card, nearby Blackberry.

First try going directly from the deck to the card bypassing the mixer not because the mixer might be bad but you want to eliminate some cables.

Turned out to be user error. The Kona LH was set to component Beta and should have been Component SMPTE. We switched that setting and it cleared up right away! Many thanks for all your input and suggestions! Kind Regards,
