XDCAm HD422 Codec missing?
I upgraded to FCP 6.05 but when I import XDCAM EX material I get a warning message that the XDcam HD422 codec is missing (big red exclamation mark before the codec.)
I guess it doesn’t matter because the XDCAM EX codec apparently is installed but why is the HD422 codec not installed? And how can I fix it?Jeroen

Have installed the 2.8 version of the Sony Transfer program?
If not, install it and it will be there… If you have installed it, install it again.

As far as I know, the codec is not contained with the XDCAM Transfer installer. It’s part or the AppleHDVCodec.component that is updated (or should have been) during the FCP 6.0.3 update. Are Sony now also distributing Apple’s ProApp codecs or is this an issue with a corrupt XDCAM Transfer install just not recognizing the codec when it really is there after all?

It sounds like it might be a little of both.
But before going too far. I would first blow the prefs and see if FCP recognizes the codec after this. I’ve seen this happen before.

That’s what I thought too… but after looking at the files, the AppleHDVCodec.component is dated April 20, 2007, which doesn’t sound right but that’s what its showing on my computer. But I was under the impression from Sony that this isn’t HDV at all now, that its part of the updated AppleMPEG2Codec.component (dated July 2, 2007) since HDV isn’t at all 422 but 420. I may be wrong… but I thought Sony told me this.

Now, this I have seen happen after a point update. Sometimes this can happen and reinstalling the Sony software is the fix.

When I got the error message it did mention something about the codec being supported since the fcp 6.03 update. Maybe it went wrong when I upgraded from 6.02 to 6.05?
Anyhow, as long as everything functions the way I want it to, it’s no biggie I guess. I turned off the option that the transfer app looks for the codec every time it starts up- that’s one less nuisance…

None of it (except XDCAM HD 25 Mb/s CBR) is HDV … all the XDCAM Codecs are just bundled within that codec component as they are all variations on the same basic format, including XDCAM HD 422.Andy

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions on the startup drive. Repairing permissions should always be carried out just before and right after a major upgrade. If that doesn’t solve it then buy DiskWarrior and run it to rebuild the startup drive directory. Half the time DiskWarrior will find directory inconsistencies after an update. If this happens FCP can lose important links between itself and the supporting programs and plugins. DiskWarrior will go a long way to restoring the links. This has been my experience.

I have a new twist to this situation and som infomation, The XDCAM EX codecs are installed with the FCP 6.0.2 update. The sony XDCAM transfer program will give you the warning when they are missing.
You cannit look at the MP4 files in quicktime only the sony transfer will convert to .mov and this codec is requiremed by both sony and fcp. I have a system at 10.5.2 that I upgraded from fcp 6 to 6.0.2 and the codecs are still missing. since I cannot update to 6.05 bundle I need to get the codecs from another machine that is working. How do I transfer the AppleMPEG2Codec.component. I cant find in terminal or in finder?——————————————————————————–
I downloaded the FCP 6.0.2 update 39MB and in installed and created the fpre files for XDCAM EX but the codecs didnt install. The sony XDCAM transfer program states then the XDCAM EX codecs are not there but the FCP about says 6.0.2 is installed and the presets installed. How do I get the codecs installed? I have another machine that works cant I just copy the correct files? I have to stay at 10.5.2 as Pro Tools wont allow to upgrade. All other updates to FCP require 10.5.5
