23.98HD footage import to 29.97 sequence.
I don’t exactly know what the problem is, it’s somewhat of a two-parter.
MiniDV conversion from 16mm imported into final cut and into a sequence with normal sequence settings for that medium. Everything looks fine and dandy but we recently reshot on P2 HDX with 23.98 fps.
Importing the HD footage into the 29.97 sequence makes it soft and terrible quality so I tried to change the Compressor from DV/DVC Pro NTSC to DVCPROHD 720p60
After rendering my timeline, when I go to playback – it doesn’t. Audio runs fine but the entire picture is still framed. (even the HD stuff doesn’t play.)When I tried to make a new sequence just for the HD footage, allowing FCP to choose the settings to match the clip the HD looks great and plays fine. When I try to import the 29.97 footage, its choppy because of the framerate. When I changed the HD sequence converter to the DV/DVC one as in my other sequence, the same problem happens with playback.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a way to keep the HD sequence setting but change the framerate to match the other one?How do I put the 23.98 footage in the same sequence as 29.97 without dramatic quality loss?
Please help!!

Even with FCP 6 which can handle multiple frame rates in one sequence it is better to make them all the same. Compressor or Cinema Tools is what you need.

To make 23.98 into 29.97 you simple need to add a pulldown to your mxf files. You may want to check out DVfilm Raylight MXFX. You can use this to add pulldown to your unprocessed .mxf files. You can also use it to rotate, resize, and noise reduction.
