Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Mac Pro Slow

I just purchased a Mac Pro 2 X 2.8 Quad with 4mb ram and nvidia geforce 8800gt graphics card. I have 500gb in bay 1 for applications such as Final Cut Studio 2. I have (3) 750gb drives in bays 2, 3 and 4. These are raid 0 together for 2tb which is where all project files, render files, etc rest. I just started editing in hd – mostly dvcpro hd at 720 resolution.

My problems: FCP crashes alot. It’s sluggish. My old g4 dual 1.42 running FCE was much faster and it only had 2gb ram. Motion is a Dog!!!!!! I think I’m spending more time rebooting programs then I am being productive.

Is this a RAM issue? That’s my guess. If so, what do you recommend for RAM? What manufacturer of RAM do you use – you know apple tries to scare you into using their extremely overpriced RAM.

Is this a graphics card issue? If so, what do you recommend?

Hope you can help. Not happy with my new mac and I’ve had them since 1980.

    Thanks.

The System directories are a real mess after installing.
Repair permissions and run DiskWarrior, TechTools or similar.
