Re:Auxilliary Timecode for FCP
Hello All,
I would like to know if there is hardware that will allow me to convert aux timecode recorded on Channel 2 on HDV tapes , so that i can digitize it from the tape into FCP. Currently we digitize the tapes and then run the clips through a Aux timecode reader software made by Video Toolshed. Our producers want a faster way to bring in the aux timecode into final cut.I spoke with an AJA tech and they do not have any hardware that will allow us to bring in the Aux TC.

Horita has a product, TCI-50, which “The TCI-50 reads SMPTE VITC or LTC time code and translates and inserts the time code numbers into the RS-422 data stream going back to an edit controller or personal computer.”

There’s also a program called Boom Recorder which says “timecode
LTC SMPTE/EBU timecode signal are decoded from any audio channel. Jam or continues sync. Many frame rate formats are supported. Start and stop on timecode availability.”It’s relatively cheap if it works. I have no experience with it.

This product only allows live Timecode.Can it convert timecode of a tape with the Aux timecode on an audio channel

I don’t think so, there is no difference between a LTC that comes from a live feed or from a VTR/camcorder.
