Great solution for adding 3rd monitor without FCP going nuts!
I just wanted to take a minute and share a something cool I found over the weekend that seems to work well when adding a 3rd monitor to FCP. This all came about for me last week when I wanted to add a 3rd monitor to my suite because I needed more room to edit when editing HD footage (3rd monitor would be dedicated just to bins/logging). First I tried adding a 2nd graphics card but because Apple has not figured out how to make that run bug free in FCP, I had a lot of problems (FXPlugins did not render). Next I tried the Matrox Triple2Go but that would not work for me because I have 2 Apple 23′ Cine Displays and my 3rd monitor that I wanted to add is a non HD monitor. (The triple2go locks onto the highest res monitor and does not you allow to add a lower res monitor).
After all this I found the IOGEAR USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card which seems to really work great. I would not edit video on it or put my timeline in that monitor because it still is running USB 2.0 but it works great as a bin/effect list window. It was under $100 and solved my issue allowing me to have more space without breaking the bank. Check it out:
