Just starting up with a couple of fcp suites linked to a raid and am having a little bit of internal debate about the best / most usual way to store stuff.

My plan is that all media goes to the raid and all project stuff is stored locally – and then projects are passed over between suites in a folder on the raid when needed. It feels a little weird to be saving the project stuff to the raid as there seems like the potential for things to be open in both suites and therefore possible to oversave with older versions / wrong versions etc. Am I thinking along the right lines?

    Cheers in advance

You are correct. Store the project files locally.

I’m pretty sure that’s not possible. If two editors have the same project file open and one tries to save it, it will say “File in Use, Cannot Save.” I would test it out first before taking my word for it.

Don’t know your situation, but there is something to be said for having all the project files on the same shared storage.
