telecine edl
hi out there,
can any one tell me the easiest way to pull an edl for telecine in fcp? The process in avid is fairly simple but you need to modify the edl settings. Can u do this in fc and what steps should i take to get the edit sorts as per labrolls etc?

I don’t understand what an EDL for telecine is. Telecine is usually the first step, transferring film to video, and lists often come from that process and are brought to Cinema Tools and Final Cut Pro.
What are you trying to do?
Cinema Tools is the environment where film lists are created.
A little more detail, and I’m sure the collective here can help you.

thanks for responding so soon. This is a slightly more detailed explanation of my dilemma:basically at the post house i work in in Germany, our work flow is as follows when editing on Avid. We load in the one lights from digi, and do a directors cut. Then we make a TELECINE EDL (sort mode C) of this (sorted in order of lab rolls automatically by the avid) that goes to the grading suite. They use this to grade the various shots in lab roll order. Then we get a digi back with the selected takes, with the final grade. This is then given to the flame with an EDIT EDL (sort mode A) for an online conform. So my question is, how do i create an edl for the grading suite that arranges all shots in order of labrolls, sort mode C in avid edl manager, (other than doing this by hand) in final cut?

Final Cut Pro does not make cmode EDLs correctly. Never has – even though in the EDL export menu there is a setting for “Source Sort,” it doesn’t work properly.
Here’s what I do: export an EDL, using either Master or Source sort, then use the Import feature of Excel to import the EDL into a spreadsheet. During the import process, you’ll be able to specify the position of the column breaks, and once you finish importing you can use the sort functions in Excel to sort by reel # and timecode. Not much use including any extra information like notes in an EDL like this since once you sort they will be separated from the edit event to which they apply.
If you don’t have Excel, you can use TextEdit to open the EDL and manually move the edit events into the right order. This is not so bad if you’re dealing with a :30 commercial or two but it’s painful for long format work.
