offline work flow
I apologize for this is a pretty basic question, however I’m used to working with Avid and I can’t seem to find the answer I need on any online searches or Final Cut books. That said here’s my problem:
I’m capturing HDV footage (1080p24) that was shot on a Sony V1U. I have two systems set up for capture- a MacBook Pro w/ FCP v5.1.4 conncected to a Sony HVR-M15AU deck and a MacPro running the FCP v6 and using a Sony HVR-1500A deck. I want to capture low-rez to save space but so far I’ve been unsuccessful. I’ve tried following the deck manuals to down-convert HDV to DV but once I do that, Final Cut no longer recognizes the decks’ existence. I also tried using the RT-offline settings- HDV and regular old NTSC- neither agreed with FCP. I must be missing something so if anyone has any insight, I’d love to hear it!
Secondly, I have been capturing full rez HD in the meantime because I’m on a really tight schedule and really just need to get tapes in. For the tapes I’ve already captured, is there a way I can compress them to a lower resolution? (In Avid terms this would be transcoding but I haven’t found the equivalent yet for FC.)
Thanks in advance!
Ronnie
