Just curious about a recommended workflow for the following-

A client wants to fully digitize all of their field tapes for a variety of nonrelevant reasons. This can easily be achieved by just capturing them, but what to do from there to proceed with pulling out clips for editing and media management in general. The fully digitized field tape files are eventually to be taken offsite on a drive (but they could remain through the editing process).

For editing and making logged clips what would you recommend? Going back through the cap files with log and transfer? Pulling the full caps in to FCP and making subclips in the browser?

I want to ensure that whatever process evolves allows for reconstruction of the media back through to source tapes ideally. It seems somewhat similar to the P2 workflows that are popping up everywhere…outside of how the media would be mounted.

More info that plays into the mix:

    Final destination is Broadcast SDTV

    Source tapes are HDV

    System is FCP6

Capture could be via firewire into any apple format or via an AJA IO to 8 bit uncompressed.
