FCP crashing and dropping frames when using converted MPEGS
Hi, I am currently editing a short project and due to constraints had to import the footage off DV tapes and onto a PC and then copied them across to my MAC, They were in MPEG format so I have used MPEG stream to convert them to H264 format so I could then take them into FCP. This has all worked fine so far however today I have had real issues. FCP keeps crashing when I’m looking through footage in the viewer and most clips it just wont play in the canvas. All the files I converted the other day are still working fine and I used the exact same process today but its just not working! Has anyone encountered this problem before while using converted MPEGs?
Any help anyone could give me would be awesome!

Hi Tim,
Sorry to tell you that you have made the worst choice with H264.
H264 looks incredible, but is a delivery format, not an editing format. FC doesn’t knows (no yet) how to manage it.
Had you try importing the MPG-2 directly to FC?
In case you want to transcode the MPG-2 to a more editable format, use MPGStreamclip and export to DV50.
