  • Cross Dissolve between two composite modes

I am trying to have a layer that is additive at first and then after a certain point it goes to be a normal layer. When I add a cross-dissolve the additive goes on to the last frame of the dissolve at which points it shuts off and goes into the normal mode. I’ve tried additive and non-additive dissolves as well, none work. Please help. I don’t want to have to make my edit in After Effects, but it may come down to that.

Yar, modes are like that. You’ll need to render (or precomp/nest) them both and perform the dissolve between the nests or the movies.
I’ve only ever seen that Boris tools are capable of setting keyframes for the application of blend modes.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

If I nest them, I will lose the add mode that I need to go to third clip that is below these two.

You don’t have to nest the two clips together. You have to nest only the clip with the Additive mode. Then apply the dissolve.
