Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 1v, 4a tracks

i have always used a VX2100 3CCD camera that records to DV tape. just recently i purchased a HPX170P and when i log and transfered the footage i wound up with 1 video and “4” audio tracks.

i dont see why i would need 4 audio tracks when recording in stereo.

im using an on camera shot gun mic pluged into the XLR channel 2. settings are both set to channel 2 in order to produce stereo from one input.

is this a setting in FCP or could it possibly be the camera. i have looked around both and can not find the reason why im ending up with 4 audio tracks.

    thank you

Your shotgun mic is a mono signal… can’t get stereo from that (it takes two of them) What you’re recording is the same track twice in reality. i.e., you’re recording two identical mono tracks.

But that said, DVCPROHD, and DVCPRO50 both include 4 tracks. If you shoot DV with that camera, you can select it to record either 2 or 4 tracks, but in any case, you either need a stereo microphone, or two mono mics placed apart from each other to get a sterophonic recording.

The camera always records 4 channels of audio. You can have FCP only import 2 channels…that is an option you choose in the LOG AND TRANSFER window…audio tab area.

that makes perfect sense. except i don’t understand why shooting in DVCPRO50 and DVCPROHD creates 4 audio tracks.

i have to read about my mic again but when im adjusting left and right audio on the camera it seems to receive it like a left/right mic. maybe it is a stereo mic.

sorry for the stupid questions. ill look into my manuel a lil more.

    thanks for your help.
