  hooking up second monitor DVI

  Will hooking up a second monitor via DVI and using that to playback my HD EX1 timeline (fullscreen) slow down my editing system? Does that drain memory? Or am I imagining things?

  No…no and…yes? It won’t slow your system down. Many people do that….it’s called Digital Cinema Preview. So no, it won’t slow the system, doesn’t drain memory, and you aren’t dreaming.
