  Suggestions for day to night effect?

  I have fmp and magic bullet and they have night presets but I was looking for something a little more realistic? Anybody have any ideas? I’m sure AE can do this I’m just not sure how.

  Yeah I hear ya Dave that did look labor intensive. I was just doing some pre planning before the 48 hour film festival. I’ll shoot some footage in the meantime and play around with it.

  I dunno how fast magic bullet adds to the Render Time, but methinks this oldie but goodie from Rick Gerard is faster, on the draw in a 48 hour shoot out. And if your-a-shootin’-a-shootin’-match, as in Western Shoot ‘Em Up, you need this… Pardner.

  Along the line…

  I have used a Magic Bllet created night effect as a top layer (or bottom layer)… kind of depends…. you need to experiment.

  Then use the original as a second layer…

  Change the opacity to help manage the night effect. A lot of the problems have to do with shadow changes and backlighing (or lack of backlighting) that changes throughout the video.

  This is faster because you are starting from a layer that has the basic “night” characteristics that Magic Bullet created.

  This method takes time… but, (to me) it seems to be faster than just starting from scratch and trying to add layers with various color adjustments.

  No matter how you slice it… this day to night thing will take a lot of time and probably not look as good as you would like.
